The True Cost of Buying Optional Stuff Print E-mail
It is far easier to build wealth but cutting your costs than increasing your income for one very good reason: taxes.  Don't forget that the $150 purse that you bought in the store may have needed $225 in income to buy.  The more money you make, the higher the income needed to pay for any item.  For those people at upper incomes that live in high income tax states that also have high sales taxes, the number can approach 50% or said another way, if you want that $250 golf club it will take you $500 in income to get it.

So when you are out there buying items you don't need, think about what they are really costing you.
