A Holiday Gift that Saves You Money Print E-mail

Get your kid a Nintendo DSi for a gift and no matter how good of a deal you snared, it will cost you a bundle in the long run. With games costing $30, that $10 that you saved on Amazon.com will be dwarfed when your child builds an extensive collection. And you'll probably spend a few minutes every day trying to pry the little game console out of their hands.

If you want a cheap gift this Christmas, go old school and get them a board game. It might seem lame upfront but we guarantee that your children will end up remembering more of the times they played it then what level they got to in Lego Batman DS game.

And board games save you money twice. First, they are really cheap pricewise and second, they get the family together for continual cheap entertainment. Your gift will pay for itself many times over as you avoid the $60 bill for the family to go to the movies. Get your own bag of popcorn and enjoy a fun night at home.

But what to get them. Start with Monopoly. What better game to teach kids how to save money, invest in real estate, and conquer the world. Or maybe you want to build railroads instead, try Ticket to Ride, one of the highest ranked board games out there. Looking for something just as fun, but under $10, try a card game like Five Crowns

Most board games will cost you $35 or less and if your kids learn to play them well, it won't be long before they are asking you to play again so that they can beat you one more time.
