Normally if you want to maximize the interest on your money, you should take advantage of the 15 day grace period that most lenders give. But at the end of the year, you should think about making your January 1st mortgage payment on December 31st. If you are itemizing your taxes, you'll be able to deduct the interest on that 13th payment and save yourself some money on the current year's taxes.
