You’re not alone. To a certain degree, we’re all hoarders and pack rats. You tell yourself that you’ll neve r know when you need it even though you know the answer is ‘never.’ Accumulating clutter can be a very expensive habit and one that is very difficult to break.
First off, let’s look at the expense and hassle of keeping useless things around the house. Stuff takes up space. Even small objects can crowd desk drawers and kitchen cabinets. And when you’re looking for something that you actually need, you might not find it because it’s lost in the clutter. So the bad stuff ends up burying the good stuff.

When I bought our current home, one of the things that stood out was the number of little projects that weren't done. Everything from the hedges not being trimmed to the room with fluorescent green paint. These little things kept the house on the market for a full 4 months before we came along. In our neighborhood, that's a long time. Even during the bear market in real estate, most houses have sold in under 60 days. We saw passed these little flaws and focused on the big things: the house, its true condition, and the property. But we probably paid $50,000 less than if the house had been tuned up before the sale. These little home improvements don't have to be expensive, in fact these 5 won't cost you more than a few hundred to a few thousand dollars and will likely increase the value of your property.

I've always lived in nice places and not just because I like a good address or a little beauty in my life - but because it saves money. If you don't like where you live - you end up wanting to get out of there and once you step out your front door you're bound to spend money from the minute you get in your car and turn on the ignition. So make your home a desirable place to hang out. Aside from feeling secure and comfortable, you'll probably end up with a bit of extra change in your pocket.
