It's Saturday morning and it's hard to resist sleeping in and letting the kids waste a few more hours Loweswatching cartoons. It's the easy choice, it's free and you'll feel better in the afternoon. Besides, that's what they want to do.

A little mind is a terrible thing to leave in front of the Boob Tube for five hours every Saturday morning. It's up to the parent to take the initiative to break the cycle of intellectual malnourishment that  comes from an ovedose of watching TVs. Parents should make the time to plan wholesome and educational activities that the entire family can enjoy on the weekends. Most of us know that already and the problem is that it's hard to plan family outings on a budget. For all those thrifty parents out there, here are three activities you can do with your kids that won’t put a dent in your wallet. In fact it’s an opportunity for you to bond with that child, for the child to develop dexterity, and motivate them to fix and build things. Bonding aside, it's always good to have a ten year old fix-it child around the house.

When I bought our current home, one of the things that stood out was the number of little projects that weren't done. Everything from the hedges not being trimmed to the room with fluorescent green Housepaint. These little things kept the house on the market for a full 4 months before we came along. In our neighborhood, that's a long time.  Even during the bear market in real estate, most houses have sold in under 60 days. We saw passed these little flaws and focused on the big things: the house, its true condition, and the property. But we probably paid $50,000 less than if the house had been tuned up before the sale. These little home improvements don't have to be expensive, in fact these 5 won't cost you more than a few hundred to a few thousand dollars and will likely increase the value of your property.
