Auto dealers are masters at figuring out how to squeeze more profit out of unsuspecting consumers. The whole dealership model is built around one basic principal - maximizing the profit on each customer by taking advantage of their ignorance. There are many things that the dealer knows that he would prefer that you didn't. If you did, he wouldn't be able to make nearly as much profit.

No-haggle dealerships have grown in popularity in the last 15 years. Many people are attracted by the notion of getting a guaranteed lower price. But, in general if you are buying a car from a no-haggle dealership, you're not going to get a screaming deal. You probably aren't going to get ripped off on the purchase price either but as we discussed in 10 Tips for Buying a New Car Cheaply, they can still make a killing off of you on the financing and extras.

Car manufacturers have huge problems these days. It isn't just GM or Chrysler either, its every major automaker. The biggest problem they have is that the models they build are very durable and can can last for a very long time.
How the world ever decided that that people should buy a new car every 3 or 5 years is beyond me. Do you trade in refrigerators that often? lawnmowers? men's suits? I can understand the temptation of embracing new technology and exchanging your laptop every few years, but a car? As a technology enthusiast, I can even sympathize with the guy drooling over the 60 inch HDTV. But, with the possible exception of hybrids, car technology hasn't made any quantum leaps in the last 15 years.

You've read our articles on how to negotiate the best deal on a new or used car. You want the low price but think that you are going to get eaten alive once you are in the showroom. You're just not confident of your abilities, and so you're planning on heading to a no haggle dealership and go with the one-price option. There's an easier, often overlooked, strategy that can help ensure you get a better price: bring someone else that you think will be a better negotiator.

Leasing is just another word for renting. Many leases are like renting an apartment with an option to buy. While renting an apartment can make alot of sense, leasing a car almost never does. So why is it that so many real estate brokers that tout buying a house actually lease that Mercedes?
The first reason that you should never lease a car is that its a complex transaction with too many variables.
