Nobody has yet figured out how socks manage to disappear somewhere in the wash cycle. Some people are convinced that they actually make their escape from the dryer. My contacts in the sock underworld tell me that the Sock Lobby pressures appliance manufacturers to build in secret escape routes. I’m not buying it. I think they’re specially trained by the sock industry because every time you lose a single sock – you might as well lose the other pair. That means a whole bunch of people showing up to buy replacement socks.

Gyms have made a mint on automatic monthly withdrawals coupled with member non-attendance. The vast majority of people get on these monthly plans for $19, $29, $39, or even $120 a month! It doesn't seem like much (ok $120 a month seems pretty damn un-cheap to me). Oftentimes gyms don't even mention that they have annual or multi-year plans that can save you a bundle. Not too surprising given that 70% of Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck.
