3) Get Your Baseline Rate: Head to Kayak.com and enter in your information. This will give you an idea of what your Baseline Internet rate is for your hotels without having to go to 100 different sites. Now one drawback of this method is that often the lowest priced travel site is someone you have never, ever heard of and entrusting them with your credit card is perhaps a leap of faith. Don’t worry about that, if you aren’t comfortable with going through them, you won’t have to. Now that you know what the prices are for the handful of hotels you would consider, hop on over to Hotwire.com and see what an equivalent rated hotel will cost you. If you are confident that you can get one of your hotels on Hotwire, go with it, it will probably save you 20% off the best rate on Kayak.com.
If you find a rate that is just incredibly low (this happens fairly often) from a bonafide travel site, book it and move on to planning the rest of your trip, if not, keep reading.
