I get all kinds of offers including one from some Jersey Boys Rocking Chicago. Don't they have enough problems in Jersey? Trust me if I am going to dish out $155 it won't be to encourage some kids from Jersey to disturb Chicago. They even try to get me to go to a restauant with them. I don't keep that kind of company. No thanks, I'll dine with my wife. Now, any chance we can get the check and get this over with?

Now after about 25 different offers from everything from shows to cruises, I come across one that I just don't get, maybe I am just too old or too cheap, but who the heck pays for carbon emission offsets to cancel out the jet fuel I burned on my flight. Is this some kind of scam? I mean seriously, are people actually paying money to some organization so that they can offset the pollution from their flight. Its not like the fuel wasn't burned. Why don't people just grab some saplings and plant a few trees on the weekend? Do they really need to outsource it to someone else? And if they want to do this kind of stuff, why don't they just donate $100 to a tree hugging club in their home town? Does it make them feel better? If they feel so bad, then just don't fly or take a Magnetic Levitation train....oh sorry, we don't have those yet.

But I digress. Now for the moment of glory - I'm finally going to book this baby. I hit the button to enter my credit card info.

I too hate all the attempts to add on during the purchase process. If they MUST do something like that, then they could do it like Amazon. On the last page, deliver up some of these offers and if I'm interested, I can explore the options.

I also agree with you about the carbon offsets but only because there's no real proof that the offset companies are doing anything with the money. Just planting a few trees at home isn't quite as practical because trees take up a lot of space when they're mature and a lot of people don't have the space to plant them. Sure they could donate a few to their local park but charity like that takes a fair bit of time to locate a local charity, cut em the check, etc.

Also, some enormous old trees can pull in a lot more carbon than a young tree. So it may make more sense to pay a small village in South American to not burn a forest than to try to re-establish one in America.

So, I like the ideas of offsets...I just don't support the current ones.
